Dear Westlake Parents and Guardians:

This week begins our annual CMAS (Colorado Measures of Academic Success) testing.  This is a great opportunity for students to shine and show what they know…..which is a lot!  We are excited to support our students around CMAS and look forward to seeing the huge amounts of progress they have made over the year.  We want students to do their best and we also want them to not feel unnecessary stress around testing.  Please take a moment to click on the article link below about testing tips and review the 7th grade CMAS testing schedule for this week.  If possible, please make every effort to have your child at school for testing as make-up testing can be challenging.  We certainly understand illness occurs and if your child is sick please keep them home.

Testing Tips

7th Grade CMAS Testing-

Tuesday- ELA 1 8:40am-10:40am; ELA 2 1:40pm- 3:40pm

Wednesday- Math 1 8:40am-9:55am; Math 2  12:30pm-1:40pm

Thursday- ELA 3 8:40am-10:40am; Math 3 1:30pm-2:40pm

2nd Annual Color Fun Run!  Register today!

Don’t forget to get signed up for the Color Fun Run!  There is still time to get in on the best price of season for registering so be sure to register today.  If your child would like to participate and you’re experiencing financial hardships please contact the WLMS counseling department and we can help support you in getting a scholarship for this fun event.  You definitely don’t want to miss out!

Dear Westlake Parents and Guardians:

I hope you remembered to move your clocks forward an hour for Daylight Savings!   It is hard to believe that Spring is officially just around the corner.  We’ve got a lot of exciting events coming up including our Color Fun Run!  Registration is now live and during the month of March is the cheapest registration fee of the season.  If you are in need of financial assistance and your child would like to participate there are scholarships available so please see one of the counselors or call the main office for more information. Don’t miss out on this annual event!

Community Safety Night

The district is putting on a Community Safety Night March 13th.  Come to this special event to learn about the various processes in the district to keep students safe.  If you have any questions feel free to reach out to the school or district.

Students, come join us in the A La Carte Cafe for Breakfast We serve from 8:00AM-8:30 AM Breakfast is just $1.80 and remember if your student is on free or reduced lunch, breakfast is free. Al La Carte items are also available for purchase.

Pay It Forward- Book Adoption

The Sixth Grade Language Arts Department has applied for book approval of Pay It Forward by Catherine Ryan Hyde, the “Young Readers Edition.”  The story is about twelve-year-old Trevor who is challenged by his social studies teacher to come up with a plan to impact the world.  He develops a “pay it forward” strategy in which an individual does something kind for someone else and then asks them to do the same for three other people.  The book is considered historical fiction since it is based upon the author’s experience of having been helped out of a dangerous situation.

The purpose of requiring the reading of this book is to help students focus on their “charity” argument project in Unit 6,  addressing the schools’ vision for all students: “Igniting a passion for learning and service; Dream, Risk, Achieve,” as well as a foundation for social, emotional learning which is a focus of the District 12 “Elevate” program.

The book will be available at Westlake for you to look at from March 11 – 19, as part of the approval process.  Please feel free to contact your child’s Language Arts teacher with any questions.

WLMS Color Fun Run

We Are LIVE! Registration is OPEN for you to sign up your student(s) for the 2019 WLMS PTO Color Fun Run on Friday May 10th, 2019 (the event is during school – at school). This event was a huge success last year! We had over 800 students participate AND we raised $16,000 for the school.

* New this year – Round 1 Registration is called – MARCH MADNESS! In the month of March you get the LOWEST REGISTRATION PRICE AVAILABLE ($20) and your student is guaranteed an event t-shirt.  *Note if you signed up as a Family/Friends Sponsor you do not need to register again.

WLMS Needs you!  Testing Volunteers

Please consider volunteering during PARCC testing.  We are looking for adults to be stationed in the various hallways, with a chair.  Your main objective will be to assist us with noise control and maintaining a good testing atmosphere.  You are welcome to bring a book during those times when the halls are not active.  please see the following dates and times needed.
