Westlake Parents and Guardians:
Students often share with me their successes and struggles in the classroom. This past week was no exception as I had a number of students share their apprehension around getting a test back wondering what the resulting grade would be. These conversations this week, along with similar conversations with my own children, reminded me of the importance of instilling and modeling a growth mindset in and for our children. According to Carol Dweck, “in a growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work—brains and talent are just the starting point. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment.” Take a moment to listen to Dweck speak about the power of yet in the video below.
